Our task here is to remove and replace a chiller unit at the Colchester Odeon.

Access was only possible from the busy High Street. The local Council were very concerned about disrupting the local businesses and flow of traffic because it means complete road closure .

Planning ahead means we can move in and out with the minimum disruption for all concerned.

Once past a certain point those on the High Street side would be working blind. Relying on directions from those on the roof.

Our team is fully qualified and experienced in working this way. Close contact and co-ordination is essential for a successful lift .

Partial Road Closure, Upper Street Islington

In a busy part of London there are severe restrictions for any work undertaken and this was certainly no exception.

Transport for London (TfL) agreed to a part road closure but would allocate just one hour to replace two Air Conditioning units.

Planning and preparation before the job was extensive and submitted to TfL prior to agreement.

Only when the authorities were confident with MRI London's proposal would they sanction the work.

One Hour Time limit

Even a part road closure causes immense disruption so we were given a one hour time slot - from 9 to 10 am - to remove and replace both units.

MRI London's experience meant effective and detailed planning beforehand to stay within the strict time limit.

On the day the work was completed in a little over half the allocated slot to the satisfaction of everyone involved.

As access to this domestic property was along a minor road the size of crane was limited.

The crane had to be within range which meant it would stand on a slope - in short you can't have cranes operating on a slope.

A fast and temporary solution is needed to keep the crane level and secure. There can be absolutely no movement from the supports to ensure a safe lift.

Provision is made to let the crane drive into place before the jacks are used, this must be level and straight.

Accuracy and care are essential. If the supports are not even the crane will be unstable and unsafe. Careful measurement and placement mean the lift went without a hitch.

Road Closures
