| Accommodating Existing Utilities | ||
Power supplies and drainage are usually at fixed points which MRI London has no control over.
When we consider the layout for foundation work we must ensure access to utilities. Power supplies can be routed using cables but drainage is absolutely fixed, so free flow of rainwater is a priority consideration.As with many things the devil is in the detail, we understand the overall picture and how all the various needs and elements must be catered for. |

| Foundations and Superstructure | ||
At Victoria the lift was straight forward. There were no exceptional considerations.
The building height and plant weight were all within everyday limits - everyday for MRI London.
The road was wide enough to cordon off a section and allow the usual high volume of traffic to pass easily with minimum obstruction. |
||
| Built To Last | ||
Once the plant is installed further work on the foundations is usually out of the question.It is essential that the work is done to the highest standards to ensure it is fit for the lifetime of the plant.
When outside we must allow for conditions out of anyone's control, pollution can have a corrosive effect on buildings so proper cladding and protection is a must. |

| Room To Work | ||
The area we closed was to accommodate the crane and the lorry bringing in the load.
As always we had to work within tight schedules, all went according to the plan and the lift was a complete success. All units were quickly in place with the minimum inconvenience for everyone. |
||
| In And Out | ||
When closing the section of road we had to ensure that the low-loader, with the Air Handling Units, could line up with the crane. The low-loader had to get in place without stopping the traffic.
MRI London's experience means we predict accurately all that is needed. We know the limitations of the crane and where the low-loader must be. We know the best way for the low-loader to" get in and get out". |
||
| The Lift - Up And Over | |
It is important to allow for the crane's movement. Once high enough the crane rotates to put the load over the roof to be lowered into place.
As the crane rotates the load will move to the left or right of where it is lifted. We allow for this when we position the crane.Once the load in in the air the crane cannot be moved. One of the many things MRI London must get right to stay on schedule.
|
| Going Down | ||
Once over the roof the ground crew are effectively blind, they rely on the operatives on the roof to see for them.
Effective and efficient communication is absolutely vital. Both crews have to be aware of the limitations of the others.Fitting the units into their right place takes skill, experience and patience.
|
||
| Gently Into Place | ||
When almost in place the greatest care is needed to ensure everything fits precisely where it must go. There is no room for error. Making small deliberate movements with a crane takes yeas of experience, MRI London have that experience to ensure a good job done well.
The inexperienced firms can spend all day moving plant up, down, back and forth trying to get it in place.
MRI London don't, we get on and do it because we can. |
