Carbon Reduction Policy
Mechanical Removals & Installations Ltd (MRI Ltd)
1. Purpose
This policy sets out MRI Ltd’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and operating in a manner that supports the transition to a low-carbon economy.
As a specialist contractor delivering lifting, transport and installation services, MRI Ltd recognises that operational planning, fleet activity and project delivery contribute to carbon emissions. This policy explains how those impacts are measured, managed and reduced.
MRI Ltd is committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and to continually improving environmental performance across all areas of the business.
This policy aligns with:

2. Scope
This policy applies to all MRI Ltd operations within the United Kingdom, including:

Head office and administrative functions
-
Warehousing and storage facilities
-
Lifting, transport and installation operations
-
Company-owned vehicles, plant and equipment
-
Project delivery across all sites
The policy addresses:

Scope 1 emissions – direct emissions from fuel use, plant and fleet

Scope 2 emissions – emissions from purchased electricity
-
Scope 3 emissions – indirect emissions across the value chain, including logistics, materials and supply partners
3. Responsibilities
Responsibility for implementation and oversight of this policy is defined as follows:

Managing Director
Overall accountability for carbon reduction strategy, targets and performance -
Management Team
Responsible for integrating carbon reduction measures into planning, operations and project delivery -
Appointed Persons (APs) & Operational Leads
Responsible for planning lifting operations efficiently to minimise unnecessary movements, duplication and associated emissions -
Employees and Operatives
Required to follow operational controls, including efficient driving practices, no-idling requirements and energy awareness -
Supply Chain Partners
Expected to support MRI Ltd’s carbon reduction objectives and provide relevant environmental data where required
4. Commitments
MRI Ltd commits to the following:
4.1 Net Zero Commitment
MRI Ltd will achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 across all UK operations.
Progress will be reviewed annually and reported in line with PPN 06/21 requirements.
4.2 Measurement, Reporting & Transparency
MRI Ltd will:

Measure emissions in accordance with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard

Clearly define reporting boundaries, methodologies and time periods

Use recognised emission factors, including:
-
Electricity: 0.20705 kg CO₂e per kWh
-
Diesel: 2.66175 kg CO₂e per litre
-

Present data in a format consistent with SECR-style reporting, where applicable
-
Ensure all environmental claims are accurate, verifiable and compliant with the UK CMA Green Claims Code and ASA guidance
4.3 Operational Emissions Reduction (Scope 1 & 2)
MRI Ltd will reduce direct and energy-related emissions through:

Appointed Person (AP) led lift planning, ensuring operations are coordinated to minimise unnecessary crane movements, plant duplication and site revisits

Turnkey project delivery, consolidating delivery, lifting, plant movement and installation into a single controlled operation to reduce overall transport requirements

Fleet efficiency measures, including:

Strict no-idling policy
-
Telematics-based driver monitoring and coaching
-
Route optimisation and journey planning
-

Facility improvements, including:
-
LED lighting systems
-
Occupancy and motion sensors
-
Controlled energy usage outside operational hours
-
4.4 Supply Chain & Scope 3 Emissions
MRI Ltd recognises the importance of reducing emissions across its wider value chain and will:

Identify and prioritise key Scope 3 categories, including:
-
Purchased goods (e.g. steel and fabricated materials)
-
Transport and logistics partners
-
Waste generation and disposal
-
Business travel and employee commuting
-

Engage with suppliers to obtain relevant activity data (e.g. tonnage, distance, fuel usage)
-
Work collaboratively with partners to improve load efficiency, reduce empty journeys and optimise logistics
-
Introduce improved data collection processes to support more accurate reporting over time
4.5 Sustainable Project Delivery
MRI Ltd will reduce carbon impact through how work is planned and executed, including:

Coordinated lifting and transport operations to reduce site congestion and repeat movements
-
Use of specialist lifting platforms and equipment to consolidate operations
-
Efficient sequencing of works to minimise downtime, duplication and unnecessary fuel consumption

Integration of environmental considerations into project planning and risk assessment processes
4.6 Compliance
MRI Ltd will:

Operate in compliance with all relevant UK environmental legislation

Align reporting with PPN 06/21 (PPN 006) where required
-
Maintain transparency in all carbon reporting and environmental claims
-
Ensure environmental considerations are integrated into business decision-making
5. Continuous Improvement
MRI Ltd is committed to continuous improvement by:

Monitoring and reviewing emissions performance regularly

Improving data quality across Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions

Setting realistic and achievable reduction targets
-
Identifying practical opportunities to reduce emissions within operations and supply chain

Reviewing new technologies and operational practices that support lower carbon delivery
6. Review
This policy will be:

Reviewed annually to ensure it remains relevant, effective and aligned with business operations

Updated in line with changes in legislation, operational activities and industry best practice
