Overview

MRI were appointed to deliver a multi-phase mechanical handling, cranage, and logistics package on a large-scale data centre project.
 

The works involved the delivery, lifting, positioning, and installation of critical mechanical plant equipment across multiple levels of the building, including complex roof-level installations.
 

Operating within a live, controlled environment, MRI provided a fully coordinated, end-to-end solution — managing every stage from initial delivery and secure storage through to final positioning and installation.
 

Scope of Works

MRI delivered a complete turnkey solution, including:

• Full contract lifting service with Appointed Person, lift planning, and CAD support

• Mobile crane operations with full counterweight configurations across multiple phases

• Lifting operations to roof level and upper floors

• Out-of-hours working to minimise disruption

• Full traffic management planning including road closures, permits, and diversion control

• Secure storage and sequenced “just-in-time” delivery scheduling

• Transport coordination, offloading, and staging of plant equipment

• Internal plant movement and multi-level installation

• Specialist positioning onto bases and structural supports

• Fabrication and installation of galvanised steel support channels

• Dedicated lifting teams including supervisors, slinger/signallers, and operatives

Plant handled included:

• Dry Air Coolers (DACs) (~1,150kg each)

• Air Handling Units (AHUs) (multi-section units up to ~2,500kg+)

• Pump skids and enclosures

• Attenuators and ductwork systems

• Electrical panels and GRP enclosures

The Challenge

This project required the coordination of complex lifting, logistics, and installation works within a live and highly controlled urban environment.
