Proven Where

It Matters Most

For a recent London data centre project, MRI managed the storage, delivery, lifting and final positioning of 5no buffer vessels measuring approximately 3m diameter x 7m long.

The vessels were collected from storage, delivered into a live central London site, crane lifted to Level 9, transferred into the side of the building via a 10t lifting platform, then carefully moved through restricted internal areas before being upended and positioned into their final locations.

Due to the extremely tight access and limited working space, MRI carried out a full uprighting trial whilst the vessels were still in storage. Although the drawings, RAMS and lift plans confirmed the methodology, we wanted to physically prove the operation before reaching site.

This allowed the team to refine the lifting sequence, confirm clearances, test equipment arrangements and remove uncertainty before the live operation.

Sometimes the extra preparation is what makes the difference between a job that works on paper and a job that works safely and efficiently on site.

LON 3 DATA CENTRE

Project: Major Slough Data Centre Plant Installation

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support a major data centre plant installation programme at Iron Mountain in Slough. The client required a specialist lifting, movement and logistics partner capable of coordinating multiple heavy and critical plant movements across a live data centre environment, including EPODs, generator sets, belly tanks, radiators, chillers, roof plant and associated equipment. The project demanded detailed lift planning, precise sequencing, controlled delivery management, structural loading consideration, traffic coordination and safe execution around a high-value operational site.

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included contract lifting, craneage, Appointed Person lift planning, A-status lift plans, CAD lifting drawings, certified lifting equipment, heavy-duty lifting tackle, spreader beams, crane mats, Ethafoam, lift supervision, slinger/signallers, rigging operatives, traffic and pedestrian management, barrier systems, road closure support, local authority coordination, site surveys, plant movement, non-crane movement works, storage, delivery and transport support. Key Challenge:
The project involved exceptionally heavy and high-value equipment, multiple crane configurations, phased delivery schedules, constrained site access, live data centre conditions and strict control of lifting zones. BARCLAYS 5NC

Project: Barclays 5NC, Canary Wharf

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support phased works at Barclays’ Canary Wharf estate, including plant logistics, storage, lifting support and specialist demolition/enabling works across 5 North Colonnade and 10 South Colonnade. The project required careful planning around restricted working conditions, out-of-hours activity, heavy materials, structural concrete removal and the controlled movement of equipment and waste through a busy commercial environment.

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included the take-in, storage, reloading and delivery of generator sets to site over separate weekend lift periods, together with a wider Phase 5 demolition and enabling works package. This included labour, transport, dismantling, moving and lifting equipment, specialist Brokk breaking equipment, concrete breakout, saw cutting, roof slab lifting and palletising, removal of roof insulation and grating, steelwork support removal, debris clearance, goods lift movements and disposal of redundant materials through licensed waste facilities.

Key Challenge:
The works involved a combination of heavy plant logistics, reinforced concrete breakout, roof-level slab handling, steelwork avoidance, waste control and phased out-of-hours delivery. MRI had to manage the practical constraints of working within a high-profile Canary Wharf commercial estate while ensuring materials were removed safely, reusable items were protected, and demolition debris was controlled and transferred off site through the agreed access routes.

Result:
MRI provided a coordinated package that helped the client progress complex enabling and demolition works with one accountable specialist contractor managing the lifting, movement, dismantling, storage, transport and waste elements. The works were planned around the programme requirements, with reusable roof slabs lifted, palletised and retained for future use, redundant materials removed to licensed waste stations, and specialist breaking/cutting works delivered in a controlled and safety-led manner.

BARCLAYS 10SC

Project: Barclays 10SC, Canary Wharf

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support generator installation works at Barclays’ 10 South Colonnade building in Canary Wharf. The client required a controlled lifting and movement solution to transfer generator sections from delivery vehicles to roof level, before moving them through an access opening and into the generator room for positioning. The works required careful planning around restricted city-centre access, roof-level loadings, out-of-hours working, traffic management and coordination with Canary Wharf stakeholders.

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included the provision of a full contract lift package, including labour, supervision, transport, certified lifting and movement equipment, Appointed Person lift planning, detailed CAD drawings, craneage, lifting tackle, spreader beams, steel mats, pavement protection, pedestrian barriers, Heras fencing, traffic and pedestrian management, marshals, permits and stakeholder liaison. MRI also allowed for the design, supply, installation and removal of a bespoke roof-level landing platform and steel trackway, enabling generator sections to be landed externally, assembled, moved into the generator room and positioned as required.

Key Challenge:
The project involved lifting generator sections to roof level at a maximum radius of approximately 72.5 metres, with the heaviest individual section weighing up to 8,000kg. MRI had to plan the works around limited lifting windows, highway load restrictions, road closures, pedestrian management, DLR and Canary Wharf Management requirements, weather risk and the need to move heavy plant across a temporary roof-level trackway into the building. The lift also required structural checks to confirm the suitability of the building for the imposed loads from the landing platform, trackway and generator movements.

Result:
MRI provided a coordinated, safety-led lifting and movement strategy that gave the client a clear route for installing critical generator plant within a highly constrained Canary Wharf environment. By combining contract lifting, engineered temporary works, traffic management, roof-level movement planning and stakeholder coordination within one package, MRI helped reduce interface risk and gave the client a controlled method for progressing the generator installation works out of hours with minimal disruption to the surrounding estate.

Sensitive Site Project: Palace of Westminster

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support a programme of mechanical plant replacement, temporary plant movement and contract lifting works within the Houses of Parliament estate. The client required a specialist contractor capable of working within a highly sensitive, restricted and operational environment, where access, planning, safety controls, traffic management and programme coordination were critical.

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included craneage, plant movement, lifting operations, movement labour, transport, traffic and pedestrian management, Appointed Person lift planning, lift supervision, lifting tackle, rigger mats, barrier systems and specialist movement equipment. Works included the movement, lifting and removal of tank sections, pipework modules, AHU sections, coils, cooling towers, pumps, steelwork, temporary chillers, generator sets and associated mechanical plant across multiple areas of the estate, including roof-level and internal plantroom locations.

The project required careful coordination within one of the UK’s most sensitive and restricted working environments. "THE IMPOSSIBLE PROJECT"

Project: Clissold Leisure Centre, London

Client Requirement:
Where others said it could not be done and walked away, Mechanical Removals & Installations came in and built our own solution for our clients project.

 

MRI were engaged to support renewable plant replacement works at Clissold Leisure Centre, helping the client move and position heavy mechanical equipment within a live public leisure centre environment. The project required a controlled lifting and movement solution for CHP, GSHP and associated plant, with careful planning around restricted access, floor loading limits, public-facing areas, basement plantroom access and the need to protect finished surfaces throughout the route.

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included contract lifting, specialist plant movement, certified lifting equipment, movement equipment, floor protection, temporary lifting beams, Genie lifts, access equipment, Hilti fixings, barrier systems, signage and a bespoke twin A-frame gantry with an 8m central running beam. MRI also provided storage and logistics support to ensure plant arrived in the correct sequence. The works included the movement and positioning of CHP equipment, GSHP units, plate heat exchangers, water-to-water heat pumps, buffer vessel sections, pumps and pressurisation units through the leisure centre and into the required plantroom areas.

Key Challenge:
The works had to be carried out through constrained internal access routes, including main reception, glass door openings, the sports hall, corridors and a tight stairway leading to basement plantroom level. MRI had to protect the building throughout, using HDPE matting to reduce point loadings and safeguard floors, while also creating a safe lifting route using engineered temporary lifting equipment. The project required careful sequencing, temporary works, controlled exclusion zones and precise coordination to move heavy renewable plant through a live leisure centre with minimal disruption.

Result:
MRI delivered a coordinated lifting, movement and logistics package that enabled the client to progress the leisure centre’s renewable plant upgrade safely and efficiently. TELEHOUSE SOUTH

Project: Canary Wharf Data Centre CH Migration Works – Plant Movement & Buffer Vessel Installation

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support the Telehouse South CH Migration Works at Canary Wharf, providing specialist plant movement, lifting, strip-out and positioning support within a live data centre environment. The client required a contractor capable of handling heavy and awkward mechanical and electrical plant across multiple levels of the building, while working around strict site controls, restricted access routes, security procedures, existing services and critical operational areas.

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included labour, supervision, certified movement and lifting equipment, removal vehicles, contract lifting support, plant movement, strip-out works, waste removal and specialist buffer vessel handling. The works included the movement and positioning of condensers, CRAC/CRAH units, buffer vessels, secondary pumps and transformers, together with the dismantling and removal of redundant pipework, pumps, water strainers, expansion vessels, switchboards, distribution boards and AHU sections. MRI also provided specialist Level 09 buffer vessel works, including movement, rotation, uprighting and final positioning using controlled lifting methods, gantry systems, lifting tackle, skates, Tirfor equipment and engineered temporary access arrangements.

Key Challenge:
The project involved complex plant movement through a live, secure data centre with restricted access, multiple floor levels, goods lift movements, heavy plant weights, high-level working areas and sensitive surrounding infrastructure. One of the key challenges was the Level 09 buffer vessel installation, which required temporary access modifications, careful landing of the vessels, controlled movement across the floor, rotation around restricted areas and uprighting into final position. MRI also had to manage interface risks with other contractors, site security, permits, demarcation, working-at-height controls and the protection of operational areas throughout the works.

Result:
MRI provided a coordinated, safety-led plant movement and enabling works package that helped the client progress a complex CH migration programme within a demanding live data centre environment. UNILEVER

Project: Unilever – Multi-Phase Roof Plant Cranage & Internal M&E Plant Movement

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support a multi-phase mechanical and electrical plant replacement programme at Unilever’s Kingston site. The client required a specialist lifting and movement contractor capable of managing both roof-level cranage and internal plant movement across multiple levels of the building, while coordinating around public highway restrictions, local authority requirements, traffic management, delivery sequencing and restricted access routes.

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included contract lifting, Appointed Person lift planning, A-status lift plans, CAD drawings, craneage, crane mats, Ethafoam, certified lifting equipment, spreader beams, lift supervision, slinger/signallers, rigging operatives, traffic marshals, barrier systems, Heras fencing, no-parking cones, road closure/diversion arrangements, advance warning signage, local letter drops, TTRO/crane licence coordination and TfL bus diversion support. MRI also provided internal plant movement services, moving and positioning CRAC units, AHUs, MVHRs, FCUs, UPS equipment, battery racks, grease separators, pump skids, dry air coolers, attenuators, enclosures, panel boards and CAT 5 storage tanks across Buildings A and B.

The project required MRI to coordinate multiple workfaces across a constrained live building environment, including roof-level lifting from a public highway crane position and internal movement through goods lifts, hoists and restricted access routes. The works had to be planned around public road controls, council permissions, bus diversion requirements, traffic and pedestrian management, weather risk, delivery schedules and the safe movement of delicate mechanical and electrical plant through the building. Several items required careful protection, controlled handling and precise positioning to avoid damage during movement.

Project: Multi-phase plant movement, lifting and M&E replacement support across Aldersgate sites in central London

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged across a series of mechanical plant movement, replacement and enabling works at Aldersgate sites in London. The works required a specialist contractor capable of supporting live building upgrades, basement plantroom access, roof-level lifting, pipework removal, chiller replacement and the installation of heavy M&E equipment within restricted city-centre environments.

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included labour, transport, certified movement and lifting equipment, contract lifting, craneage, fork truck operations, beam testing, electric hoist hire, pipework cutting and removal, chiller replacement, storage, delivery, basement plant movement and roof-level lifting. OF EDUCATION

Project: Department for Education, Sanctuary Building – AHU & Pump Plant Movement Works

 

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support mechanical plant movement works at the Department for Education’s Sanctuary Building in Westminster. The client required a specialist contractor to assist with the controlled movement and positioning of AHUs from roof level into plantroom locations, together with associated pump lifting and repositioning works. The project required careful planning around restricted access, roof-level logistics, scaffold and hoist use, temporary access openings, existing services and live building constraints.

 

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included labour, supervision, RAMS, site coordination, certified movement and lifting equipment, pallet trucks, flat barrows, sleepers, scaffold boards, aluminium sheets, temporary ramp arrangements, small tools, lifting accessories and A-frame gantry equipment. For the AHU works, MRI moved tools and equipment to roof level via lifting cage and hoist, coordinated access openings into the plantrooms, created temporary ramps between the access opening and plant bases, and manually manoeuvred AHUs into final position using pallet trucks and controlled movement methods. MRI also carried out pump lifting works from inertia bases using a 1t SWL A-frame gantry, roller trolleys, chain blocks, slings and shackles, enabling pumps and selected inertia bases to be lifted, moved, repositioned and lowered back into place for follow-on works by others.

 

Key Challenge:
The works involved moving heavy and awkward mechanical plant through constrained roof and plantroom areas where access was limited and existing services had to be protected. MRI had to manage temporary openings, a raised plant base, a controlled ramp arrangement, hoist logistics and the safe movement of AHUs through restricted routes. The pump works also required precise lifting from 400mm-high inertia bases, with pumps weighing up to 824kg, while maintaining exclusion zones and ensuring all lifting operations were controlled within the available basement plantroom space.

Result:
MRI provided a practical, safety-led plant movement package that enabled the client to progress mechanical replacement and alteration works within a challenging government building environment. By combining route planning, temporary access solutions, pallet truck movement, A-frame gantry lifting, certified equipment and experienced supervision, MRI delivered a controlled method for moving and positioning plant safely, cleanly and with minimal disruption to the wider site.

LD10 DATA CENTRE

Project: Slough Data Centre Roof Gantry Plant Lifting & Enabling Works

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support a multi-phase data centre plant replacement and enabling works package at LD10 in Slough. The client required a specialist lifting, movement and dismantling contractor capable of managing roof-level gantry lifts, packaged plant room installation, dry air cooler lifting, temporary heat pump removal and redundant services strip-out within a controlled data centre environment. The works required careful planning around restricted site access, delivery sequencing, crane positioning, ground loadings, traffic management, weather risk and coordination with other contractors.

 

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included contract lifting, Appointed Person lift planning, A-status lift plans, CAD drawings, craneage, lift supervision, slinger/signallers, rigging operatives, traffic and pedestrian marshals, certified lifting equipment, spreader beams, crane mats, Ethafoam, HIAB support, barrier systems, signage, movement equipment, cold-cutting equipment, roll-on/roll-off skips and licensed waste disposal. MRI carried out roof gantry lifting works for Hybrid Dry Air Coolers and Packaged Plant Room sections, together with the dismantling and removal of redundant pipework, bracketry, PHXs, containment, cabling and temporary Air Source Heat Pumps from the roof-level gantry area.

 

Key Challenge:
The project involved heavy and high-value mechanical plant being lifted to and from roof gantry level within a live data centre estate. MRI had to manage crane setup, load spreading, HGV delivery sequencing, security restrictions, limited vehicle holding arrangements, gantry-level access, weather monitoring and controlled exclusion zones. The works also required coordination between lifting operations and enabling works, ensuring redundant pipework and services were isolated, dismantled, stored safely at roof level and removed in sequence during cranage operations.

KAO

Project: Slough Data Centre IEC & LV Switchgear Movement Works

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support specialist plant and electrical equipment movement works at KAO Data Centre in Slough. The client required a controlled movement and positioning solution for IEC units and LV switchgear panels within a live data centre environment, with plant lifted to first-floor scaffold gantry level before being moved through designated routes to final positions. The works required careful coordination around restricted access, scaffold platforms, gantry landings, floor protection, equipment sequencing, edge protection, lifting operations and sensitive data centre conditions.

 

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included labour, supervision, RAMS, lifting coordination, certified movement and lifting equipment, forklift operations, pallet trucks, machine skoots, 5t Reid gantry system, trolley clamps, manual chain hoists, hydraulic jacks, rollers, Genie lifts, flat barrows, floor protection, barrier systems, lifting signs, harnesses, fall arrest equipment, tag lines, slings, shackles, protective sleeves and temporary platform support. MRI moved and positioned IEC base and top sections, including units lifted to scaffold platform level before being manoeuvred into the building, assembled, raised, positioned on concrete bases and aligned under manufacturer instruction. MRI also supported the movement and positioning of multiple LV switchgear sections from first-floor gantry level into the required switchrooms.

 

Key Challenge:
The project involved moving heavy, awkward and high-value data centre equipment through constrained access routes from scaffold gantry level into final plant and switchroom locations. The IEC works required bottom and top sections to be handled separately due to height restrictions, with base sections weighing approximately 3,250kg and top sections positioned later using controlled lifting and access methods. The LV switchgear package involved multiple 2,000kg panel sections requiring floor protection, controlled movement on skoots, final positioning on rollers and careful protection of completed finishes and sensitive equipment.

 

Result:
MRI provided a coordinated, safety-led movement package that helped the client progress critical data centre installation works with clear control and minimal disruption. WESTFIELD SHOPPING CENTRE

Project: Westfield White City – Out of Hours Roof Plant Cranage

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support roof plant installation works at The Ministry, Westfield White City. The client required a controlled out-of-hours cranage solution to lift mechanical plant from delivery vehicles to roof level within a busy retail and commercial estate environment. The works required careful planning around restricted access, public-facing surroundings, pedestrian management, delivery coordination and safe lifting operations outside normal working hours.

 

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included labour, supervision, transport, certified lifting equipment, Appointed Person lift planning, an A-status lifting plan with detailed CAD drawings, craneage, lift supervision, slinger/signallers, certified lifting tackle, four-way radios, Ekki mats, Ethafoam, pedestrian barrier board, Chapter 8 traffic and pedestrian management, signage and pedestrian/traffic marshals. MRI were appointed to lift 3no air source heat pumps, 6no pumps, 2no pressurisation units and 4no AHUs from delivery vehicles and lower them into the required roof-level positions.

 

Key Challenge:
The project required roof-level lifting within a high-footfall London retail estate, where access, timing, public interface and exclusion zones had to be carefully controlled. MRI had to plan the cranage around out-of-hours working, delivery vehicle coordination, ground protection, pedestrian segregation, weather monitoring and the need to manage lifting operations safely within a constrained commercial environment.

 

Result:
MRI provided a planned, safety-led contract lifting package that gave the client a clear method for delivering and positioning multiple items of roof plant with minimal disruption to the wider estate. ACTON LEISURE CENTRE

Project: Acton Centre – Multi Phase Renewable Plant Cranage & Basement Plantroom Movement

 

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support a multi-phase renewable plant upgrade at Acton Centre in West London. The client required a specialist lifting, movement and logistics contractor capable of managing roof-level plant cranage, redundant plant removal, basement plantroom movement and buffer vessel positioning within a live leisure centre environment. The works required careful planning around restricted urban access, out-of-hours lifting, local authority permissions, TfL coordination, road closures, bus diversions, delivery sequencing and constrained internal plantroom access.

 

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included contract lifting, Appointed Person lift planning, A-status lifting plans, CAD drawings, craneage, lift supervision, slinger/signallers, movement operatives, traffic marshals, certified lifting equipment, spreader beams, crane mats, Ekki mats, Ethafoam ground protection, traffic management plans, road closure and diversion setup, advanced warning signage, resident letter drops, TTRO and crane licence coordination, TfL bus stand suspension/relocation and TfL bus diversion arrangements. MRI lifted and positioned roof-level plant including an ASHP, adiabatic cooler, A/C condenser units and AHU sections, while also removing redundant condensers and a gas cooler for licensed disposal. MRI also carried out internal plant movement works, including lowering pump sets, water-to-water units, buffer vessel sections, plate heat exchangers, expansion vessels and associated equipment into basement and ground-floor plantroom areas using controlled lifting and movement methods.

 

Key Challenge:
The project involved multiple work phases across roof, ground-floor and basement plantroom areas, each with different access and coordination constraints. Roof-level lifting had to be planned around out-of-hours working, road closures, crane positioning, pavement and ground protection, local authority approvals, TfL requirements, weather monitoring and delivery timing. Internally, MRI had to manage restricted access through the building, limited floor grating openings, basement lowering operations, beam use above the access opening, manual plant movement, floor protection and final positioning within constrained plantroom spaces.

 

Result:
MRI provided a coordinated, safety-led lifting and movement package that helped the client progress a complex renewable plant upgrade with clear control and accountability. By combining contract lifting, local authority coordination, TfL liaison, traffic management, roof plant cranage, redundant plant removal, basement plant movement, storage/logistics support and specialist movement equipment, MRI delivered a practical end-to-end solution for moving heavy and awkward mechanical plant through a challenging live leisure centre environment.

SKY STUDIOS

Project: Sky Studios Elstree – Fire Pump Plant Movement & A-Frame Gantry Positioning

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support plant movement works at Sky Studios in Elstree, Borehamwood. The client required a specialist movement contractor to safely lift, manoeuvre and position fire pump plant from a scaffold landing platform onto final plinth locations. The works required careful coordination around scaffold access, restricted movement routes, plant weights, lifting equipment setup and final positioning accuracy.

 

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included labour, supervision, transport, certified movement equipment, certified lifting equipment, Appointed Person lift planning, HIAB vehicle support and an A-frame gantry system. MRI lifted the diesel fire pump and electrical pump from ground level onto the scaffold landing platform using a HIAB vehicle, then manoeuvred the plant from the landing platform to the required plinth locations. MRI operatives constructed the A-frame gantry system and used controlled lifting methods to land the pumps into final position. The associated switch panel was also positioned as required.

 

Key Challenge:
The works involved moving heavy pump plant from a scaffold landing platform into final position, with the diesel fire pump weighing approximately 1,624kg and the electrical pump weighing approximately 1,447kg. MRI had to manage the interface between HIAB lifting, scaffold landing access, manual/mechanical movement, gantry lifting and precise plinth positioning, while keeping the work area controlled and clear of obstruction.

 

Result:
MRI provided a practical, safety-led plant movement package that enabled the client to position heavy fire pump equipment accurately and efficiently. By combining HIAB lifting, certified movement equipment, A-frame gantry lifting, lift planning and experienced supervision, MRI delivered a controlled solution for moving and positioning critical plant within a restricted studio site environment.

MILTON KEYNES UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Project: Milton Keynes Healthcare Estate – Radiotherapy Plant Cranage & Movement Works

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support a multi-phase mechanical and electrical plant installation programme at Milton Keynes University Hospital’s Radiotherapy Unit. The client required a specialist lifting and movement contractor capable of delivering roof-level cranage, plant positioning and associated logistics within a live healthcare estate, where safety, access control, programme coordination, ground loadings and minimal disruption to hospital operations were critical.

 

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included contract lifting, Appointed Person lift planning, A-status lifting plans, detailed CAD drawings, craneage, lift supervision, slinger/signallers, rigging operatives, certified lifting equipment, certified movement equipment, spreader beams, crane mats, Ekki mats, Ethafoam ground protection, hardwood railway sleepers, pedestrian barrier systems, Chapter 8 traffic and pedestrian management, CAD traffic management planning and site logistics support. MRI lifted and positioned multiple items of roof-level plant across the radiotherapy buildings, including ASHPs, AHUs, LINAC AHUs, package plantroom sections, HV/LV switchroom equipment, chillers, ductwork and prefabricated pipework. MRI also supported buffer vessel movement, laying the vessel horizontally for access before manoeuvring and uprighting it into final position, together with crane mat delivery, installation and removal to support later lift phases.

 

Key Challenge:
The works required careful coordination within a live hospital environment, with lifting operations taking place adjacent to the sub-station, energy centre and radiotherapy unit. MRI had to manage restricted estate access, delivery sequencing, roof-level preparation, pedestrian and traffic segregation, crane positioning, point loading reviews, ground bearing requirements, temporary roadway suitability and weather monitoring. The buffer vessel movement added a further access challenge, as it had to be handled horizontally before being moved into the radiotherapy unit and upended into its final position.

 

Result:
MRI provided a coordinated, safety-led lifting and movement package that helped the client progress complex M&E plant installation works within a sensitive healthcare environment. By combining contract lifting, lift planning, craneage, traffic management, load spreading, specialist movement methods and practical site coordination, MRI gave the client a controlled route for delivering and positioning critical plant safely, efficiently and with clear accountability across multiple project phases.

ST MARYS CHURCH - AMERSHAM

Project: Boiler Replacement Support at St Mary’s Church

Client Requirement:
Mechanical Removals & Installations were engaged to support the replacement of a boiler at St Mary’s Church in Old Amersham. The client required a safe, controlled lifting and movement solution to remove the redundant boiler from the boiler house and install the replacement unit through a restricted access point, while working carefully around the church environment and existing site constraints.

MRI Scope:
MRI’s scope included labour, supervision, an Appointed Person lift plan, a crane-mounted HIAB vehicle with operator, certified lifting equipment, outrigger mats for grass protection, barriers, signage, slinger support and movement operatives. MRI manually manoeuvred the redundant boiler from the boiler house to the access point, lifted it out using the HIAB vehicle, loaded it for removal from site, and then lifted the new boiler through the same access point before positioning it within the boiler house.

Key Challenge:
The works required careful planning around a restricted access route, limited manoeuvring space and the need to position a HIAB vehicle safely near the church. MRI also had to account for ground conditions, including the use of outrigger mats on grassed areas, while maintaining a safe lifting zone and ensuring the boiler could be moved manually into final position without damage to the surrounding building fabric.

Result:
MRI provided a planned, safety-led boiler replacement support package completed within a short-duration programme. By combining lift planning, HIAB lifting, manual plant movement, certified equipment and controlled waste removal, MRI gave the client a clear and practical method for replacing the boiler safely within a sensitive church setting.
