The vessels were collected from storage, delivered into a live central London site, crane lifted to Level 9, transferred into the side of the building via a 10t lifting platform, then carefully moved through restricted internal areas before being upended and positioned into their final locations. Due to the extremely tight access and limited working space, MRI carried out a full uprighting trial whilst the vessels were still in storage. Although the drawings, RAMS and lift plans confirmed the methodology, we wanted to physically prove the operation before reaching site. This allowed the team to refine the lifting sequence, confirm clearances, test equipment arrangements and remove uncertainty before the live operation. Sometimes the extra preparation is what makes the difference between a job that works on paper and a job that works safely and efficiently on site. That is the standard MRI aims to deliver on every project. Health & Safety View Our Projects Our Services Request a Quote Where Others Say It Can't Be Done, We Say It Can. Some projects are simple. Equipment can be heavy, fragile, difficult to access, awkwardly shaped, fixed within a live environment or located in a building that was never designed for easy removal. Standard transport or basic lifting support is often not enough. Mechanical Removals & Installations supports machinery moving and heavy plant relocation projects with the planning, equipment, manpower and coordination needed to move assets safely. MRI considers the weight, dimensions, route, floor loading, access restrictions, lifting requirements, protection measures, transport needs and final position before recommending the most practical method. Whether the project involves a single item of machinery, a full plant relocation, internal movement through a restricted route or final positioning of heavy equipment, Mechanical Removals & Installations provides controlled support from survey to completion. Machinery & Heavy Plant We Move Mechanical Removals & Installations supports the movement, relocation, lifting, transport, storage and final positioning of a wide range of heavy commercial and industrial equipment. Industrial machinery Manufacturing equipment Heavy plant Production equipment Plant room equipment Mechanical plant Electrical infrastructure equipment Generators Transformers Switchgear UPS systems HVAC plant Chillers and AHUs Pumps and pump sets Tanks and vessels Skid-mounted equipment Packaged plant Specialist equipment Heavy or awkward project-critical assets Why Heavy Plant Relocation Needs More Than Muscle and Hope Machinery movement can go wrong quickly when the route, load, equipment and site conditions are not fully understood. A machine may need to move through a tight doorway, across a weak floor, around existing services, out of a basement, through a live production area or into a final position with only millimetres to spare. Mechanical Removals & Installations plans machinery relocation around the actual site conditions. MRI considers access routes, lifting points, load characteristics, ground and floor conditions, height restrictions, route protection, temporary works, transport requirements, sequencing and the final position. This planning helps reduce the risk of damage, delays, unsafe handling and expensive mistakes. Because “we’ll just give it a shove” is not a relocation strategy — it is how you end up with a very expensive paperweight wedged in a doorway. Key Challenges We Help Manage Restricted internal routes Heavy and awkward equipment Low headroom areas Basement or roof-level movement Plant room access Live operational environments Floor loading and load spreading considerations Existing services and obstructions Fragile surfaces and route protection Limited lifting points Tight final positioning tolerances Transport and delivery constraints Storage before relocation or installation Our Machinery Moving and Heavy Plant Relocation Services Mechanical Removals & Installations can support one-off machinery moves or provide a complete package covering survey, dismantling support, storage, transport, lifting, internal movement and final positioning. Machinery Moving Mechanical Removals & Installations can move heavy, awkward and valuable machinery within commercial, industrial and construction environments using suitable handling methods and careful route planning. Heavy Plant Relocation Mechanical Removals & Installations supports the relocation of plant and equipment between locations, within buildings or across sites, including transport, lifting, storage and final positioning. Internal Plant Movement Mechanical Removals & Installations can support internal movement through restricted routes, plant rooms, corridors, loading bays, basements, roof areas and operational spaces. Jacking and Skidding Mechanical Removals & Installations can use suitable jacking and skidding methods to move heavy equipment where crane access, forklift access or conventional lifting is not practical. Gantry Lifting and Mechanical Handling Mechanical Removals & Installations can support gantry lifting, mechanical handling and controlled movement methods for machinery and heavy plant in restricted or internal environments. Final Positioning Mechanical Removals & Installations can position machinery and plant accurately for installation, connection, commissioning or operational use. Internal Machinery Movement & Final Positioning Internal movement is often the most difficult part of a machinery relocation project. Equipment may arrive at site safely but still need to be moved through a building, around corners, across different floor levels, into a plant room or into a final position with very limited working space. Mechanical Removals & Installations plans internal machinery movement around the route, floor condition, obstructions, access width, headroom, equipment type, personnel, handling method and final positioning requirements. MRI can support the controlled movement of heavy plant through spaces where standard lifting or transport equipment cannot operate. Internal Movement Support Includes Route surveys and access planning Doorway, corridor and turning space checks Floor loading and route protection considerations Skates, jacking and skidding methods Gantry lifting where suitable Mechanical handling and controlled movement Restricted access movement Plant room movement Basement and roof-level movement Final positioning and alignment support Plant Movement & Floor Protection MRI provides controlled plant movement services for machinery, equipment and heavy loads across live, restricted and sensitive environments. Our medium duty access mats help create temporary protected routes for pallet trucks, skates and movement systems, reducing the risk of damage to raised access flooring, finished surfaces and ground conditions during internal movement, offload, positioning and installation works. View our access matting brochure to see the key specifications, typical uses and project guidance. From Collection to Relocation, Storage to Final Position Step 1 Survey and Plan Mechanical Removals & Installations reviews the machinery, access routes, site restrictions, lifting requirements, transport needs, programme dates and final position before recommending the safest method. Step 2 Prepare the Equipment and Route Mechanical Removals & Installations can coordinate around dismantling support, route protection, access preparation, temporary works, isolations or other enabling requirements where needed. Step 3 Store or Transport Where required, MRI can arrange secure storage, staged delivery, HIAB transport, heavy haulage or specialist transport for machinery and plant equipment. Crane positions may need matting. Traffic may need managing. Redundant plant may need cutting, dismantling or removing in sections. Equipment may need temporary support, underpropping or a bespoke fabricated lifting platform before it can be safely removed or installed. That is where MRI’s project support services come in. We support clients with the planning, equipment, labour, fabrication and site coordination required to make difficult works achievable. Our focus is simple: prepare properly, reduce risk, avoid delays and deliver safely. Request a Quote Request Project Support Call Our Team Speak To Our Project Team Our Project Support Services Mechanical Removals & Installations can provide a wide range of project support services as standalone works or as part of a wider lifting, movement, storage, transport, removal or installation package. Traffic Management for Crane Lifts Steel Fabrication Custom-Built Lifting Platforms and Gantries Gantry Builds Crane Mat Hire Plate Testing Mapping Surveys Controlled Tank Removal, Decommissioning and Dismantling Support Hot and Cold Cutting for Strip-Outs and Redundant Plant Replacement Underpropping Licensed Site Waste Clearance Comprehensive Lift Plans by an Appointed Person Staged Delivery and Storage Traffic Management for Crane Lifts Crane lifts often affect more than the immediate working area. Depending on the site, lift location and access restrictions, traffic, pedestrian routes, deliveries, site movements and local disruption may all need to be properly managed. MRI can support traffic management requirements for crane lifting operations, helping clients plan safe access, controlled working areas and coordinated site movements around the lift. This can be particularly important for roadside lifts, restricted commercial sites, industrial estates, live operational environments, public-facing areas and sites where access must remain controlled throughout the works. Steel Fabrication Some projects require a fabricated solution rather than an off-the-shelf answer. MRI can support projects with steel fabrication for lifting, support, access, plant movement, removal and installation requirements. This may include bespoke steelwork, support frames, platforms, lifting aids, gantry components and job-specific fabricated solutions designed around the practical challenges of the site. Our fabrication support is especially valuable where standard equipment is not suitable, access is restricted, loads are unusual or the project requires a safer and more controlled method of working. Custom-Built Lifting Platforms and Gantries MRI can provide custom-built lifting platforms and custom-built gantry systems for job-specific requirements. These solutions can be designed and built around the demands of a particular site, item of plant, access route or lifting operation. Where suitable, MRI’s custom-built lifting platforms and gantries can also be made available for hire, giving clients access to proven project-specific equipment without having to start from scratch. This support is ideal for unusual lifting requirements, restricted access projects, internal plant movement, heavy equipment replacement, redundant plant removal and works where a standard lifting arrangement is not practical. Crane Mat Hire Through our sister company, Crane Mats UK , MRI can support projects with crane mat hire for lifting operations, temporary access routes and ground protection requirements. Crane mats are a critical part of many lifting operations, helping spread loads, protect surfaces and support safe crane positioning. Mechanical Removals & Installations can help clients consider the practical ground support requirements linked to crane lifts and heavy equipment movement. This service can be provided alongside lift planning, site surveys, traffic management, crane coordination, transport, storage and staged delivery. Plate Testing MRI can support plate testing requirements where ground conditions, bearing capacity or working areas need to be assessed before lifting, movement or access works take place. This can be an important step before crane lifts, heavy plant movement, temporary access arrangements or works involving significant loading on site surfaces. By identifying potential ground or surface issues early, clients can make better decisions around crane positioning, load spreading, matting, access routes and safe working methods. Mapping Surveys MRI can provide mapping survey support to help clients understand the practical layout, access restrictions, movement routes and working constraints on site. Mapping surveys can support lift planning, machinery movement, transport coordination, staged delivery, storage planning, crane positioning, internal movement and final positioning works. This is particularly useful for restricted sites, live commercial environments, industrial facilities, plant rooms, data centres, construction sites and projects where the route to the final position is just as important as the lift itself. Controlled Tank Removal, Decommissioning and Dismantling Support MRI supports controlled tank removal, decommissioning and dismantling works for commercial and industrial sites. Tank removal projects can involve heavy, awkward or restricted items, live site constraints, access challenges, redundant services, contamination considerations and the need for careful planning. MRI can help support the safe dismantling, lifting, movement, removal and clearance of redundant tanks as part of a wider project package. This service can support fuel tank removal, oil tank removal, industrial tank dismantling, plant room clearances, redundant system removal and wider commercial or industrial site clearance works. Hot and Cold Cutting for Strip-Outs and Redundant Plant Replacement MRI can support hot and cold cutting requirements for strip-out works, redundant plant replacement and controlled dismantling projects. Where plant, pipework, tanks, steelwork, frames or redundant equipment cannot be removed in one piece, cutting works may be required to reduce items into manageable sections for safe removal. MRI can help plan and coordinate cutting works as part of a controlled removal, lifting, movement, waste clearance or replacement project. Underpropping Some projects require temporary support before equipment can be removed, moved, replaced or installed. MRI can support underpropping requirements where structures, floors, access routes, working areas or items of plant need additional support during project works. This can be especially important during plant replacement, machinery movement, controlled dismantling, restricted access works or heavy equipment handling where load transfer and temporary support need to be properly considered. Licensed Site Waste Clearance MRI can support licensed site waste clearance as part of commercial and industrial project works. This can be provided alongside strip-outs, redundant plant replacement, tank removal, dismantling, site clearance, plant room works, machinery removal and wider M&E project support. By combining waste clearance with lifting, movement, cutting, transport and project coordination, MRI helps clients reduce the number of separate suppliers involved and keep responsibility clearer on site. Comprehensive Lift Plans by an Appointed Person MRI can provide comprehensive lift plans prepared by an Appointed Person for lifting operations. A properly planned lift is critical to safe delivery. MRI can support clients with lift planning, site assessments, crane positioning, lifting methodology, RAMS, equipment selection, access considerations, load information and coordination with the wider project team. This service can support contract lifts, crane lifts, HIAB operations, machinery movement, plant replacement, tank removal, steelwork handling, rooftop plant works and restricted access lifting operations. Staged Delivery & Storage Not every site is ready to receive equipment when the supplier is ready to deliver it. MRI can support staged delivery and storage requirements for plant, machinery, equipment and project materials. This helps clients manage programme timing, site access limitations, phased works, crane availability, delivery restrictions and final positioning schedules. Equipment can be stored and delivered to site in planned stages, reducing pressure on site teams and helping the wider project run more smoothly. This service is particularly useful for M&E projects, plant replacement works, data centre projects, commercial refurbishments, construction sites and projects where timing, access and coordination are critical. Project Support as Part of a Wider MRI Package MRI’s project support services are often delivered alongside our core lifting, transport, storage, movement and installation capabilities. This means clients can use MRI as one accountable partner across several stages of the project, rather than splitting responsibility across multiple suppliers. Project support can be combined with: CPA contract lifting HIAB hire and transport Mechanical Plant Movement Heavy Haulage & Specialist Transport Site Clearance Secure Storage Staged Delivery Final Positioning This joined-up approach helps reduce delays, improve communication and keep the practical details under control. Before the Works We can help assess the site, plan access, prepare lift plans, arrange surveys, consider ground support, coordinate traffic management, plan storage and identify any fabrication, gantry, platform or underpropping requirements.
