OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY 2026

Mechanical Removals & Installations Ltd ("MRI Ltd")

 

1. Purpose

This policy defines MRI Ltd’s commitment to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, visitors and any other persons who may be affected by its operations.

As a specialist contractor delivering lifting, transport and installation services, MRI Ltd recognises the high-risk nature of its activities. This policy sets out how risks are identified, controlled and managed to ensure safe and controlled operations at all times.

This policy is aligned with the principles of ISO 45001:2018 and complies with all relevant UK health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

 

2. Scope

This policy applies to all MRI Ltd operations within the United Kingdom, including:

  • Mechanical & electrical removals and installations

  • AP-led lifting operations and lift planning

  • Plant and machinery movement

  • Transport and heavy haulage activities

  • Fabrication and associated works

  • Storage and logistics operations

It applies to all employees, management personnel, subcontractors and any individuals affected by MRI Ltd’s activities.

 

3. Responsibilities

Responsibility for health and safety is defined as follows:

  • Managing Director
    Overall accountability for health and safety performance, compliance and resource provision

  • Management Team
    Responsible for implementing health and safety systems, ensuring compliance and maintaining safe working conditions

  • Appointed Persons (APs) & Operational Leads
    Responsible for planning lifting operations safely, ensuring appropriate control measures are in place and that risks are reduced through effective coordination

  • Supervisors
    Responsible for site-level implementation of safe systems of work and ensuring compliance with RAMS

  • Employees and Operatives
    Responsible for working safely, following procedures and reporting hazards, incidents or unsafe conditions

  • Supply Chain & Subcontractors
    Required to comply with MRI Ltd’s health and safety standards and site requirements

 

4. Commitments

MRI Ltd is committed to the following:

 

4.1 Prevention of Injury and Ill Health

  • Providing safe systems of work for all activities

  • Identifying, assessing and controlling hazards through structured risk assessments and RAMS

  • Maintaining safe working environments across all sites and operations

 

4.2 Safe Operational Delivery

MRI Ltd will ensure that:

  • All lifting operations are planned and managed by competent Appointed Persons (APs)

  • Lifting equipment, vehicles, plant and machinery are operated safely and maintained appropriately

  • Transport, plant movement and installation activities are coordinated to reduce risk

  • Work is carried out under competent supervision at all times

 

4.3 Competence & Training

  • Ensuring all personnel are trained, competent and authorised for their roles

  • Providing ongoing instruction, supervision and development

  • Maintaining awareness of industry standards and best practice

 

4.4 Compliance

MRI Ltd will:

  • Comply with all relevant UK health and safety legislation, including:

    • Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974

    • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

    • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER)

    • Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER)

  • Operate in line with the principles of ISO 45001:2018

  • Maintain appropriate documentation, procedures and records

 

4.5 Incident Management

  • Reporting and investigating incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions

  • Identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions

  • Using findings to improve safety performance and prevent recurrence

 

4.6 Workforce Engagement

  • Encouraging active participation in health and safety practices

  • Promoting a positive safety culture across all levels of the organisation

  • Ensuring clear communication of roles, responsibilities and expectations

 

5. Continuous Improvement

MRI Ltd is committed to continual improvement in health and safety performance by:

  • Monitoring safety performance through inspections, audits and reporting

  • Conducting internal audits and regular management reviews

  • Holding regular SHEQ meetings to review performance and implement improvements

  • Analysing incident trends and identifying opportunities to reduce risk

  • Improving planning, supervision and operational controls

 

6. Review

This policy will be:

  • Reviewed regularly and at least annually to ensure continued relevance and effectiveness

  • Updated in line with changes to legislation, operational activities and industry best practice
