SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

Mechanical Removals & Installations Ltd ("MRI Ltd")

 

1. Purpose

Mechanical Removals & Installations Ltd (MRI) is committed to operating in a responsible and sustainable manner across all areas of its business.

This policy sets out MRI’s approach to managing environmental, social, and economic impacts, supporting long-term business resilience, and aligning with relevant UK legislation and best practice.

This policy forms part of MRI’s wider SHEQ management system and supports continuous improvement across operations.

 

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All employees (permanent and temporary)

  • Contractors, agency workers, and labour providers

  • Subcontractors and supply chain partners

  • Any organisation or individual working on behalf of MRI

It applies across all business activities, including:

  • Mechanical & electrical removals and installations

  • Contract lifting and AP-led lift planning

  • HIAB operations and plant movement

  • Transport and heavy haulage

  • Fabrication and enabling works

  • Secure storage and logistics operations

 

3. Responsibilities

3.1 Senior Management

Senior Management is responsible for:

  • Setting sustainability objectives and direction

  • Ensuring this policy is implemented and maintained

  • Allocating resources to support sustainable practices

  • Reviewing performance and identifying improvements

 

3.2 Managers & Supervisors

  • Implement sustainable practices across projects and operations

  • Monitor resource use, waste, and environmental impacts

  • Ensure suppliers and subcontractors align with MRI expectations

  • Identify opportunities for improvement on site

 

3.3 Employees & Contractors

  • Work in accordance with this policy

  • Minimise waste and resource use where possible

  • Follow environmental and operational controls

  • Report opportunities for improvement or concerns

 

4. Commitments

MRI is committed to:

  • Operating in a safe, responsible, and environmentally conscious manner

  • Complying with all relevant UK environmental and sustainability legislation

  • Reducing environmental impact across operations

  • Using resources efficiently, including fuel, materials, and energy

  • Minimising waste and promoting reuse and recycling where practical

  • Working with suppliers who share our sustainability values

  • Supporting fair working practices and ethical business conduct

  • Delivering efficient, well-planned operations to reduce unnecessary impact

 

5. Risk Management & Implementation

MRI adopts a practical, operational approach to sustainability aligned with its SHEQ systems:

 

5.1 Resource Efficiency

  • Efficient use of fuel, energy, and materials

  • Planning lifts, transport, and logistics to reduce unnecessary movements

  • Minimising idle time of plant and equipment

 

5.2 Waste Management

  • Reducing waste generation wherever possible

  • Segregating and disposing of waste responsibly

  • Reusing materials and equipment where appropriate

  • Compliance with Duty of Care requirements under Environmental Protection Act 1990

5.3 Transport & Logistics Impact

  • Planning routes and deliveries efficiently

  • Reducing emissions through effective transport management

  • Maintaining vehicles and equipment to ensure efficiency

 

5.4 Supply Chain Engagement

  • Working with suppliers who demonstrate responsible practices

  • Considering sustainability in procurement decisions

  • Encouraging subcontractors to adopt similar standards

 

5.5 Operational Control

  • Integrating sustainability into project planning and RAMS

  • Reducing environmental impact during site operations

  • Maintaining control of materials, waste, and site conditions

 

5.6 Compliance & Environmental Awareness

  • Compliance with relevant legislation, including:

    • Environmental Protection Act 1990

    • Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011

  • Promoting awareness of environmental responsibilities across the workforce

 

5.7 SHEQ Integration

  • Integrated into audits, inspections, and operational reviews

  • Linked to environmental controls and site procedures

  • Reviewed as part of management system performance

 

6. Continuous Improvement

MRI is committed to continual improvement by:

  • Monitoring environmental and operational performance

  • Identifying opportunities to reduce impact and improve efficiency

  • Reviewing practices in line with industry developments

  • Implementing improvements based on audits, feedback, and experience

 

7. Review

This policy will be reviewed:

  • At planned intervals

  • Following changes in legislation or best practice

  • After significant operational changes

  • Where improvements are identified

This policy forms part of MRI’s integrated management system and aligns with:

  • Environmental Policy (when formalised — this will sit alongside it)

9. Measurable Sustainability Objectives

MRI will track and review the following practical, achievable objectives as part of its ongoing operations:

9.1 Fuel & Transport Efficiency

  • Reduce unnecessary vehicle movements through improved planning

  • Monitor fuel usage across transport and plant where practical

  • Aim for year-on-year improvement in operational efficiency

 

9.2 Waste Reduction & Management

  • Increase segregation of waste on sites where facilities allow

  • Reduce general waste through improved planning and material control

  • Promote reuse of materials and equipment where practical

 

9.3 Supply Chain Standards

  • Increase the use of suppliers and subcontractors who demonstrate responsible environmental practices

  • Introduce basic supplier checks or expectations as part of onboarding

  • Monitor high-risk or high-impact suppliers where relevant

 

9.4 Operational Efficiency

  • Improve planning of lifting operations, logistics, and site activities to minimise wasted time, energy, and materials

  • Reduce plant idle time through better coordination

 

9.5 Workforce Awareness

  • Promote awareness of sustainability responsibilities through site briefings and inductions

  • Encourage employees to identify and report improvement opportunities

 

9.6 Monitoring & Review

  • Objectives to be reviewed periodically as part of management review

  • Adjust targets based on operational data, growth, and project requirements


10. Review

This policy will be:

  • Reviewed regularly and at least annually to ensure continued relevance and effectiveness

  • Updated in line with changes to legislation, business activities and industry best practice
